Timber Sample Information

Prior to placing your order for a piece of beautiful organic Organature furniture, you may want to view a sample of the timber in your desired finish. You can do this via our contact form, or by calling the shop. The hardwood timber we use for our beds and furniture is primarily Victorian Mountain Ash. The thinner 12 mm for cots is Tasmania Oak hardwood. Our furniture can be ordered and supplied as ‘raw and sanded’ or ‘finished’ using quality, plant-based oils from Livos. Timber colours are natural in the tree and can vary, depending on which part of the tree the timber is from, the growing conditions, and the time of year the tree is harvested, these colours/shades, can also slightly alter after the Livos finish is applied.  We do endeavour to match the timber colour variations for each piece of furniture, which is individually made to order.  Due to the nature of timber and natural oils, each piece is unique. Using a natural oil; not toxic polyurethane or chemical paint, occasionally raises the grain slightly which can be ‘polished of by using ‘fine steel wool’ lightly obtainable in hardware stores. Each piece of wood is individual in pattern and colour, and sometimes features gum veins. They do not affect the integrity of the piece and our craftsman uses these timbers as much as possible in areas which cannot be seen easily when furniture is assembled. As filler is a chemical product, we do not fill any gum veins that may appear in the timber. In some cases, these natural imperfections help enhance the unique and individuality of each piece. pastedGraphic.pngpastedGraphic_1.png                                                                                                                                          If you have any further enquiries, please call our friendly staff at Organature on 03 5932 0914 – or 0431 142 390 “Victorian Ash is sought after for appearance grade applications such as flooring, furniture, staircases, mouldings, window frames and doors.  It ranges in colour from a highly attractive pale blonde through to nutty brown tones. Natural features, such as gum vein, add decorative appeal to this species, telling the tale of the tree’s previous life in the natural elements.” www.hazelwoodhill.com.au
